JOB SUMMARY

The centralized Information Technology Services Department at the University of Connecticut in Storrs is seeking a highly skilled Data Architect to serve as a shared technical resource between the Reporting and ETL teams, with a primary focus on the University’s Microsoft Fabric analytics platform and its supporting data architecture. This position operates under a hybrid work model and requires onsite presence in Storrs three days per week.

The Data Architect designs, governs, and advances the University’s analytical data architecture, with responsibility for defining and maturing an end-to-end Microsoft Fabric implementation utilizing OneLake, Lakehouse and Warehouse patterns, orchestration, Python data transformation, and the semantic modeling layer that supports Power BI reporting.  The successful incumbent will help drive AI and machine learning capabilities into the data architecture, enabling advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and intelligent data services that enhance institutional insights and operational effectiveness. Functioning at a senior technical level, this role provides architectural leadership, technical direction, and hands-on development support for enterprise data pipelines, dimensional models, analytical structures, and reporting solutions. The incumbent collaborates closely with team managers, developers, data stewards, and stakeholders to ensure that institutional data is reliable, well-modeled, secure, and effectively used to support decision-making, research, teaching, learning, and outreach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as a senior shared technical resource for the ETL and Reporting teams, providing architectural direction and hands-on expertise for enterprise analytics solutions with an emphasis on Microsoft Fabric.
  • Design and maintain enterprise analytical data architecture, including Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, and Warehouse patterns), data warehouses, data marts, dimensional models, and governed analytical structures.
  • Designs, develops, and optimizes scalable data ingestion, orchestration, and transformation pipelines, including Fabric-aligned data flows using supporting technologies such as Python and PL/SQL.
  • Defines and implements semantic modeling and metric standards to enable consistent, reliable Power BI reporting, including shared dimensions, certified datasets/models, and reusable measures where appropriate.
  • Ensures data quality, performance, reliability, and analytical usability across ingestion, OneLake storage layers, Lakehouse/Warehouse structures, and reporting/semantic layers.
  • Translates institutional and stakeholder reporting requirements into well-governed data models, metrics, and analytical structures, aligning designs with Fabric and enterprise data standards.
  • Supports enterprise data governance practices using Microsoft Purview, including data cataloging, lineage, classification, and stewardship alignment, and ensures governance practices align with Fabric platform usage.
  • Establish and document data standards, best practices, and architectural guidance; advises leadership and project teams on Microsoft Fabric capabilities, data architecture decisions, and analytics platform evolution.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Ten years of related professional experience; OR an associate’s degree and eight years of related experience; OR a bachelor’s degree and six years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated senior-level experience designing and supporting enterprise analytical data architectures, including data warehouses, data marts, and dimensional data models.
  3. Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable ETL pipelines and complex data transformations within enterprise analytics platforms.
  4. Demonstrated working knowledge of database or analytics platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle, and PowerBI or Pentaho.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of Python and PL/SQL for data integration, transformation, and analytical data processing.
  6. Demonstrated experience ensuring data quality, reliability, and performance across data ingestion.
  7. Demonstrated experience applying AI/Agentic AI, or Machine Learning, or advanced analytics capabilities to enterprise data platforms, including support for analytical use cases, data preparation, or integration with reporting and analytics tools.
  8. Demonstrated working knowledge of enterprise data governance principles and practices, including data cataloging, lineage, classification, and stewardship.
  9. Demonstrated experience collaborating with technical teams, data stewards, and stakeholders to translate business and reporting requirements into governed analytical data solutions, including Microsoft Fabric semantic models and Power BI reporting aligned to enterprise standards.
  10. Demonstrated experience advising leadership or project teams on data architecture decisions, analytics strategy, and platform capabilities.
  11. Demonstrated experience establishing and following data standards, architectural best practices, and documentation in an enterprise environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with or demonstrated working knowledge of designing, developing, and maintaining scalable ETL pipelines and complex data transformations within enterprise analytics platforms, using Microsoft Fabric OneLake, Lakehouse and Warehouse patterns, data ingestion/orchestration and transformation workflows, and the semantic modeling layer that supports Power BI.
  2. Experience with or demonstrated working knowledge of enterprise data governance principles and practices, including data cataloging, lineage, classification, and stewardship with experience using Microsoft Purview to support governance within a Microsoft Fabric environment.
  3. Experience ensuring data quality, reliability, and performance across data ingestion, OneLake/Lakehouse/Warehouse storage layers, and reporting/semantic platforms including Power BI.
  4. Experience with enterprise scheduling tools such as Control-M or Airflow in a regimented change-controlled environment.

JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut, Information Technology Services (ITS) Department is seeking an Active Directory and Entra ID administrator for the Identity and Access Management Team. This position works under a designated team lead and is responsible for developing and administering Entra ID and Active Directory at the University of Connecticut. The successful candidate will be responsible for new configurations, support, and future development of services. Familiarity with Entra ID, Active Directory Domain Services, and enterprise security is a requirement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports on-premises Active Directory Domain Services.
  • Supports user account and group sync with on-premises AD.
  • Administers, designs, and supports Entra ID and its integrations.
  • Evaluates and deploys new features available in Entra ID.
  • Monitors and resolves account security issues in Entra ID.
  • Configures new Entra ID integrations and permissions.
  • Develop scripts to automate frequent processes.
  • Monitors and resolves security issues with on-premises IAM servers.
  • Promotes a highly collaborative, team-oriented environment, working closely with all levels of IAM staff and third-party vendors and teams.
  • Takes a leadership role in self-education.  Maintain a high level of general and specialized knowledge and significant working experience to make informed technical recommendations.

  2. Experience administering and managing Entra ID.
  3. Experience administering and managing Active Directory.
  4. Experience managing groups and users in a domain environment.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of authentication protocols such as OIDC, CAS, SAML, LDAP, SCIM.
  6. Demonstrated familiarity with PowerShell or other scripting/automation tools.
  7. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  8. Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, and analysis.

Additional Minimum Qualifications for System Administrator 3

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of a designated team leader, the Network Administrator 2 for Collaboration Services will provide technical support including planning, implementation, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, and problem solving in support of the University’s network and telecommunications systems and applications.

This position will provide domain competency and technical support in network system administration; confers with technical leadership in research and evaluation of technology solutions; and provide domain competency and technical support in administration of the university wired and wireless network and voice services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports network and voice service operations including installation, provisioning, operating, tuning, upgrading, troubleshooting, and decommissioning of wired and wireless network systems.
  • Performs needs analysis for network and VoIP voice services, including call flow design, capacity planning, and unified communications requirements.
  • Plans and implements VoIP and collaboration system integrations (e.g., call control, voicemail, directory services) in coordination with technical staff.
  • Develops and contributes to requirements documentation, statements of work, and testing procedures for VoIP and telecommunications solutions.
  • Provides daily administration and production support for VoIP platforms, including user provisioning, call routing, and system monitoring and call center queue design and troubleshooting.
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves VoIP service issues, including latency, jitter, packet loss, and call quality degradation.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, vendors, carriers, and manufacturer support to troubleshoot and optimize voice and collaboration services.
  • Deploys, configures, and maintains VoIP hardware and software, including IP phones, call managers, and session border controllers.
  • Ensures VoIP systems are properly sized, configured, and monitored for performance, QoS, capacity, and business continuity.
  • Responds to and resolves emergency voice service outages and escalated support requests.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of VoIP equipment, licenses, and related assets.
  • Documents system configurations, procedures, and end-user guidance for VoIP and collaboration services.
  • Defines technical requirements and supports procurement, implementation, and validation of VoIP solutions.
  • Leads or executes complex VoIP troubleshooting and integration efforts with minimal supervision.
  • Interfaces with and provides oversight to vendors and service providers in the design and delivery of telecommunications services.
  • Plans and supports integration of VoIP systems with related enterprise services such as messaging, conferencing, and identity systems.
  • Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and six years of experience; OR, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline and four years of experience; OR, eight years of related experience.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of scripting languages.
  3. Demonstrated experience planning, implementing, and supporting voice and collaboration systems and services in an enterprise environment.
  4. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

  2. Strong expertise in VoIP technologies and protocols (e.g., SIP, SCCP, QoS), including troubleshooting call quality issues such as latency, jitter, and packet loss.
  3. Experience with contact center technologies, including Cisco Contact Center Express, with skills in queue design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  4. Extensive experience with enterprise network infrastructure (routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, and virtualization) as it relates to supporting real-time voice services.
  5. Experience working with telecommunications carriers and service providers to provision, integrate, and manage voice services across VoIP and legacy telephony environments.
  6. Demonstrated ability to plan, design, and implement systems in compliance with telecommunications regulations, security standards, and industry best practices.
  7. Experience with network and VoIP monitoring tools and performance management to ensure service reliability, capacity planning, and business continuity.
  8. Proven ability to lead technical efforts, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and effectively engage vendors, stakeholders, and end users at all organizational levels.
