Manager of Data Warehousing, Reporting & Analytics

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of a designated Director, the IT Manager will be accountable for developing strategies related to data warehousing, analytics, modeling, and reporting for internal and external partners across the University. The IT Manager will provide oversight and direction to a team of technical professionals responsible for evolving current data processes, architecture, standards, systems, analyses and solutions. This position will provide domain expertise in data management, data governance, data modeling, data security, and reporting tools towards the development of future University reporting solutions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct the activities of staff, including identifying staffing needs and setting work priorities. Responsible for hiring, managing, training, and evaluating staff.
- Provide technical leadership in designing, developing, scheduling and implementing IT services, applications, automation and integration.
- Establish best practices and standards for data management, data integration, data warehousing, business intelligence, analytics and data governance.
- Oversee the data analytics and data science function and set key priorities and direction.
- Evaluate and recommend changes for improved technological performance, data quality, scalability and best practices.
- Responsible for implementing projects that support strategic data priorities. Execute operational plans for information delivery.
- Acts as the liaison to stakeholders, IT professionals, and the University community regarding data and reporting technologies.
- Work with key stakeholders to define requirements used to develop and implement solutions including data models, reports, and dashboards.
- Work with data engineers to guide development of ETL processes that move data between the various business applications and the warehouse.
- Define standards for ETL processes, data structures, and data organization.
- Enforce coding standards, peer reviews, and automation for reliable, efficient operations.
- Ensure strong security posture and system reliability for critical infrastructure and services.
- Support the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of University information as part of the overall University Information Security Program.
- Maintain accountability for ensuring the availability and continuity of services or systems.
- Build strong relationships with cross-functional teams, by aligning priorities and communicating progress effectively.
- Oversee upgrades and migrations to systems and applications.
- Work with IT staff to identify and resolve system errors.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related experience; or an Associate degree and 8 years of related experience; or 10 years of related experience.
- Two years of experience serving as a manager/supervisor of a moderate-sized department and demonstrated ability to lead and supervise technical staff.
- Ability to prioritize tasks across a wide array of technologies.
- Experience leading simultaneous projects or initiatives.
- Experience leading data management and reporting services and experience working with databases, data marts, data warehouses, or data lakes.
- Experience with data security and compliance.
- Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field.
- Experience designing and implementing a data strategy for a moderate to large-sized organization.
- Demonstrated experience using multiple databases, tools, and other leading business intelligence, analytics, or data visualization technologies.
- Knowledge of data engineering techniques and experience with leading data warehouse software solutions.
- Experience with BI data visualization tools.
- In-depth knowledge of computer programming languages, such as Python, SQL, or JavaScript.
- Familiarity with SOAP/REST APIs, flat files (JSON, XML, CSV, Parquet, etc.) and transforming data for ingestion into the data warehouse.
- Ability to translate between technical and business language; serving as an interface between the functional and technical partners.
- Solid knowledge of data warehouses and data marts for reporting and data sharing.
- Experience with data integration tools such as DataStage, Informatica, and Boomi.
- Experience implementing process and quality improvement related to data.
- Experience working with senior leadership.
- Experience working in higher education.

This is a full-time, permanent position located at the Storrs campus. The centralized Information Technology Services (ITS) Department at the University of Connecticut in Storrs is seeking a talented Microsoft 365 Administrator with a specialization in compliance and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) to join our team. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Systems Administrator 1:
- Compliance Administration: Monitor and manage compliance features within Microsoft Purview, including data classification, retention policies, and audit logging.
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Policy Management: Assist in designing, configuring, implementing, and maintaining DLP policies across Microsoft 365 (e.g., Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams).
- Security and Threat Management: Collaborate with Security, Identity, and Email teams to implement basic threat protection measures and ensure secure communication.
- Monitoring/Reporting: Create and maintain dashboards/reports to track compliance, DLP violations, and system performance metrics.
- Training/Support: Lead the education of end-users and stakeholders on compliance policies, data protection best practices, and incident resolution procedures. Create and maintain detailed end-user Knowledge Base articles and training materials.
- Self-education: Maintain a high level of general and specialized knowledge, coupled with significant working experience, to make informed technical recommendations and drive innovation.
- Regulatory Alignment: Work closely with legal, risk, and security teams to align Microsoft 365 configurations with standards such as FERPA, HIPAA, and other relevant frameworks, and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Other duties as required.
Additional DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES for System Administrator 2:
- Compliance Administration: Lead the monitoring and management of compliance features within Microsoft Purview, including advanced data classification, retention policies, and audit logging.
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP) Policy Management: Design, configure, implement, and maintain complex DLP policies across Microsoft 365 (e.g., Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams).
- Security and Threat Management: Collaborate with Security, Identity, and Email teams to implement advanced threat protection, ensure secure communication, and mitigate risks associated with data breaches.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Six years of related experience; or an associate degree and four years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree and two years of related experience.
- Experience administering Microsoft 365 environments.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation and configuration management.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to respond to compliance-related incidents.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Additional MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for System Administrator 2
- Eight years of related experience; or an associate degree and six years of related experience; or a bachelor's degree and four years of related experience.
- Experience with security frameworks and regulations such as FERPA and HIPAA.
- Experience writing complex PowerShell scripts for automation and configuration management.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Security Administrator Associate or other relevant Microsoft certifications.
- Experience administrating Microsoft 365 environments, with a focus on compliance and data security.
- Knowledge of DLP policies within Microsoft 365.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Purview compliance solutions (formerly Microsoft Compliance Center).
- Knowledge of Information Protection technologies such as Azure Information Protection (AIP) and sensitivity labeling.
- Experience working in a highly regulated industry.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Licensing and features.
- Familiarity with third-party data protection tools integrated with Microsoft 365.
Additional PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS for System Administrator 2
- Experience with configuring and managing DLP policies within Microsoft 365.
- Experience rolling out DLP and Purview in previous work environments.
- Experience with Microsoft Purview compliance solutions (formerly Microsoft Compliance Center).
- Experience managing projects and maintaining enterprise software offerings.
- Experience with mailbox management, including Litigation Hold, auditing and spam filtering.
- Familiarity with Active Directory and Entra (formerly Azure Active Directory).
